A UK-made, professional-grade bed bug spray that doesn't just kill what you can see โ it breaks the reproduction cycle so the infestation doesn't come back a fortnight later. Water-based, non-staining, safe on mattresses and carpets.
1 LITRE ยท Trigger Spray
Bed bugs aren't rare and they aren't a hygiene issue โ they hitchhike home from hotels, trains, taxis and second-hand furniture. Then they behave in a way that makes them almost impossible to kill with an ordinary spray.
Adults are the size of an apple pip and squeeze into mattress seams, bed frame joints, screw holes and skirting gaps. You rarely see them in daylight.
A female lays up to 5 eggs a day, cemented into hidden crevices. Standard sprays kill the adults but the eggs hatch a week later and start the cycle again.
Bed bugs feed on human blood at night โ leaving itchy welts in clusters or lines. Bites often appear on arms, shoulders, neck and back.
Kill the adults you can see and you feel better for two weeks. Then the next generation matures and it's worse than before. That's what "triple-action" solves.
Nearly every bed bug spray on the UK shelf โ Amazon and supermarket alike โ is single-active: it contains one adulticide, usually cypermethrin or permethrin. That kills the visible adults. It does nothing to the eggs.
The exact percentages are printed on the label. Here's what each active ingredient does specifically for a bed bug treatment.
Attacks the bed bug nervous system on contact. You see adults drop within seconds of a direct hit โ the visible progress that lets you know the treatment is working.
Binds to treated surfaces and stays active for weeks. Bed bugs coming out of hidden cracks to feed walk across it and die โ this is how you catch the ones you never saw.
Mimics juvenile hormone. Nymphs exposed to it cannot moult into breeding adults, and treated eggs fail to develop properly. The reproductive chain snaps.
Most home treatments fail because they only cover the mattress top. Bed bugs live within six feet of the bed but in about a dozen different hiding places. Hit them all.
Bed bugs cluster in piping, buttons, tags and stitching. Lift the mattress and spray both sides โ pay attention to the perimeter.
Wooden frames are the biggest hiding zone. Spray joints, screw holes, slats and any recessed hardware. Dismantle if you can.
Lift or unmount the headboard where possible. Spray the back, and treat the wall behind it โ bed bugs colonise the crack between headboard and wall.
Bed bugs travel along skirting. Run a spray line along the top and bottom of skirting all the way round the room, especially behind furniture.
The perimeter of the carpet where it meets the skirting is a common travel route. Spray the last 10โ15cm of carpet all round the room.
If anyone naps on the sofa, treat it: cushion seams, underside, folds and the back of the frame. Do not spray soft furnishings people sit on until fully dry.
Do this once, do it fully, and you should not need to repeat unless reinfested from outside.
Strip the bed and wash all bedding at 60ยฐC or higher. Vacuum the mattress, frame, skirting, carpet edges and any upholstery โ empty the vacuum straight into an outdoor bin. Do not move mattresses or infested furniture to another room โ that spreads it.
Shake the bottle firmly. One trigger pull is roughly 1ml. Open windows for ventilation. Keep children and pets out of the room until surfaces are fully dry.
Slightly wet all surfaces: mattress seams and both sides, bed frame joints and screw holes, headboard front and back, skirting boards, carpet edges, and any upholstery seams. Aim for uniform coverage, not soaking โ a fine, even mist is what you want.
Apply a fine mist through the air of the room at roughly one trigger pull per cubic metre. This catches flying insects and settles onto surfaces you might have missed.
Leave the room ventilated for a couple of hours. Do not touch treated surfaces until fully dry. Once dry, remake the bed with fresh laundered bedding. The residual film keeps working for weeks. If bites return after 3 weeks, repeat the surface treatment.
The 1-litre bottle is sized for a proper single-bedroom treatment โ mattress, bed frame, headboard, skirting perimeter and carpet edges โ with a margin for a repeat surface spray if you need one. Enough for a serious job in one purchase.
Coverage figures are based on the label rates on Vital Guard's HSE-approved directions (1ml/mยณ space, 20ml/mยฒ surface). One trigger pull โ 1ml.

Vital Guard is HSE-approved for amateur and professional use, but it's still an insecticide. Follow the label. Key points:
Yes. That's the specific job of the pyriproxyfen (0.01% w/w) in the formula. Pyriproxyfen is an insect growth regulator that stops eggs and nymphs from developing into breeding adults. Most single-active bed bug sprays on the UK shelf are cypermethrin-only, which kills adults on contact but leaves eggs untouched โ and the eggs hatch a week later. Vital Guard's triple-action design is what closes that gap.
Yes โ the product is HSE-approved for use on mattresses, carpets and hard & soft furnishings. Strip the mattress first and spray both sides, focusing on seams, piping, buttons and tags. Do not remake the bed until the mattress is fully dry, and always use freshly laundered bedding. Do not spray directly on sheets, pillowcases or clothing.
Contact kill is fast โ the chrysanthemum knockdown component drops any adult bed bug that gets a direct hit within seconds. The residual film keeps working for weeks after that, catching bugs that come out of hidden cracks to feed. The IGR works over the reproductive cycle, so the population collapse plays out over the following month rather than overnight.
For most infestations, one thorough treatment following the protocol above is enough. If you're still getting bites after 3 weeks, repeat the surface treatment โ that usually means a hiding spot was missed the first time (behind a headboard, inside a bed frame joint, or in the carpet perimeter). The 1-litre bottle is sized to allow for a repeat if you need it.
When used as directed, yes. Keep children and pets out of the treated room during application and until every surface is completely dry. Do not spray pet bedding or in areas where pets frequently lie. Do not apply directly to animals. Vital Guard is very toxic to aquatic life โ cover or remove fish tanks before spraying.
It's a water-based, low-odour formula and is normally non-staining. As with any spray applied to fabric, we recommend testing on an inconspicuous area first โ especially on delicate or dark upholstery.
A full single-bedroom protocol โ mattress both sides, bed frame, headboard, skirting perimeter, carpet edges, upholstery โ typically uses around half to two-thirds of the 1-litre bottle. That leaves comfortable margin for a repeat surface treatment 3 weeks later if needed.
Same triple-action formula, same active ingredients at the same percentages, same HSE approval. The 1-litre Bed Bug Killer+ is sized for a proper single-bedroom bed bug treatment. The 500ml Insect Killer Spray is sized for everyday household pest control โ ants in the kitchen, flies, cockroach cracks, wasp nests outdoors. Pick by the job.
The active ingredients โ cypermethrin, pyriproxyfen and natural pyrethrum โ are the same class of ingredients used across professional UK pest control. Vital Guard is HSE-approved (No. 10803-GB) for both amateur and professional use, at concentrations set by the approval. It is not a diluted "consumer" formula.
For a normal domestic application, common-sense care is enough: ventilate the room, keep skin covered where practical, wash hands afterwards, and keep children and pets out until dry. For professional operators, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 apply โ avoid excessive contamination of coveralls.
Same triple-action formula, 500ml size, for ants, cockroaches, flies, wasps and general household use โ the everyday half of the household pest kit.
All-round household insecticide. Ants, beetles, mites, cockroaches, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, wasps, moths โ indoors and outdoors. Same HSE-approved triple-action formula, sized for everyday jobs.
